First for dog stud
YARRAMAN Stables and Kelpies have just finalised the export of two female black and tan Australian kelpies to Fiji, being the first Australian breeders to export kelpies to the Pacific nation.
The buyer approached the breeders in June 2011 to purchase the two females pups and Yarraman dealt with local veterinarian and Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS) so they were sure they met the Fijian requirements.
“It is a very detailed process,” Andrew Finnimore from Yarraman explained.
“We must follow the requirements of the individual import permit as set out by the Fijian government.
“If all documentation and certification is not in order, then the kelpies can be sent back.
“The export process is very detailed and certain things happen to the dogs depending on their export date.”
The buyer will be relocating the kelpies to his farm where they will be active working dogs and undergo advanced obedience training. Based on the pups’ breeding they will be very suited to this work.
Recently the pups’ sire, Ballysheehan Tyson, owned and trained by Anthony Quinn, came second in the NSW Yard Dog Championships.
“We have two more litters available, sired by Tyson, and I expect these litters to go very quickly based on his recent performance,” Mr Finnimore said.
“We would like to thank Peter Brunsdon, our local vet at Tumbarumba, who has helped us immensely in getting the dogs to export stage.”

New Service at Wagga LMC
IN A REVOLUTION that will see livestock sale yards become agricultural service centres, Mediawiz and Wagga City Council (WCC) have joined forces to take the Wagga Livestock Marketing Centre (WLMC) into new territory.
Peter Mortimer, director of Mediawiz grew up in Wagga with ties to the farming sector. After a successful sporting career he studied marketing and advertising, working for Prime television for 10 years and the WIN Network for six years. His focus has always been agricultural and he recently founded Mediawiz Rural with business partner Ilan Gilead.
Mr Mortimer, whose brother Chris deals in livestock and works at the weekly sheep sale, came up with the idea after visiting several sales and observing the farmers behaviour patterns.
“Saleyards have been a meeting place for farming families for over a century,” Mr Mortimer said.
Mediawiz successfully tendered for the advertising concession offered by council in September 2010. The marketing approach is threefold – advertising, market days and an animal health service.
Next Thursday, December 1, the official launch of the Mediawiz animal health service will take place at 11am.
Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack and Opposition spokesman for agriculture, John Cobb have been invited to officially open the facility.
The official ceremony will unveil 21 new local signs, see the first sheep drenched to commemorate the new animal health service and most importantly, auction the right to shave off the Movember moustache of Wagga LMC manager Paul Martin.
