Bullocks feature at Wagga

11 Sep, 2008 10:31 AM
A RARE sale of 10 bullocks was made at the Wagga Livestock Marketing Centre’s cattle sale last week.

Ten five to six-year-old Hereford Cross bullocks were bought at $1466 a head by Victoria-based company Midfield Meat.

Rodwells stock and station agent Bernie Noonan said it was rare for today’s buyers to purchase the old-fashioned breed.

“In years gone by a lot of the breed has become obsolete because they get too big and old and the trade doesn’t want them,” Mr Noonan said.

“You might have seen sales like this 30 or 40 years ago but they’re unlikely now or in the future.”

Midfield Meat is believed to have bought the bullocks to be sent to restaurants overseas where the meat cuts are larger.

The bullocks were sold by Rodwells on behalf of vendor RA Heffernan in Bemboka.
