Cattle sale

09 Feb, 2012 06:30 AM
A larger number of cattle were offered to a smaller group of buyers but this had little affect on the market as most lots sold dearer.

Quality was good with a larger number of vealers penned.

Yearlings went mainly to feeder orders and there was a reasonable number of grown steers and well covered bullocks and heavy cows.

Vealers sold strongly with heavy butcher vealers reaching 222c and lighter restocking lines making to 238c/kg.

Most restocking lines averaged 6c to 8c/kg dearer.

Trade yearling steers sold up to 3c dearer ranging from 173c to 218c/kg.

The trade heifers lifted 5c for the medium weights but eased 3c/kg on the heavier weights.

Feeder steers were firm to 3c cheaper on the medium weights while the same weight heifers jumped 14c/kg.

Grown steers were firm to 4c stronger and bullocks remained firm, ranging from 172c to 188c/kg.

Cows were 2c to 3c better with the 3 and 4 scores ranging from 132c to 161c and one C muscle reached 177.2c/kg.

Restocking cows remained firm.
