TWO of Griffith's biggest water stakeholders are at loggerheads over impending changes to Murray-Darling Basin extraction limits.
Riverina Citrus and Murrumbidgee Irrigation (MI) have clashed over how to approach the Murray-Darling Basin Authority's (MDBA) review into the amount of water farmers can draw from the river system for irrigation.
MI chairman Gillian Kirkup described the setting of the new extraction limits as potentially having "the largest single impact on irrigation businesses and their communities in the history of water reform".
As such, MI is preparing to commission a comprehensive socio-economic study on the impact any cuts to entitlements will have.
