Joined first-cross ewes make $252

JOINED ewes topped at $252 at the annual Barellan First-Cross ewe sale on Friday.

In a show of support for the prime lamb industry, 5440 head went under the hammer to average $190 a head with buying support coming from throughout the Riverina and Southern NSW.

Delco Farming “Delco”, sold 175 first-cross ewes May/June 2010-drop, October-shorn, scanned 133 per cent in lamb to White Suffolk rams to earn the top money of $252 to Breed and Hutchinson, Leeton.

The Overs Partnership, “Lyndale”, sold top-priced pen of first-cross ewe lambs with 200, April/May 2011-drop, November-shorn lambs making $230.

The presentation for the best presented pen of ewe lambs, sponsored by SJ Tonacia and Co, was won by the Flagg Family Trust “Townswell Park”, which sold a line of 314 first-cross ewes March/April 2011-drop, November shorn for $228 to Foylewood Farming Co from Ariah Park.

The sale was conducted by Mark Flagg Livestock and Property and Findlays, Barellan.
