HAREFIELD vendors, the Fowler family have again broken the national record for lambs after their draft made $203 at the Wagga sheep and lamb sale on Thursday.
In what was a case of deja vu for John and Pene Fowler, “Kooroogong”, 70 export-weight (39kg dressed) lambs went under the hammer and broke the record of $200 they had set just a couple of weeks before.
The Lambpro-blood lambs, which made $203, sold through GJ Hulm, met with intense competition and were bought by Country Fresh, Tamworth.
When the $200 record was achieved last month – picture inset with John Fowler and son Jock and livestock agent Greg Hulm – many buyers and farmers questioned whether the market could in fact go higher.
Meanwhile, 35,000 sheep and lambs were yarded in Wagga on Thursday.
According to the National Livestock Reporting Service (NLRS) there was an increase in quality.
Heavy and extra heavy lambs were in short supply which help lift prices up to $2/head dearer.
Most of the well finished pens averaged 539c to 564c/kg cwt.
