Putting on kilos for a top cause

02 Feb, 2012 06:30 AM
A MURRAY Grey steer weighing more than 400 kilograms will be auctioned at the Royal Canberra Show on February 23 to raise funds for prostate cancer.

The steer donated by the Elizabeth Fields Murray Grey Stud at Yass has been prepared by the Rodd family from Wagga and there are high hopes he could raise $5000 or $6000.

John Rodd is no stranger to preparing steers for charity and has a passion for beef cattle and raising funds for worthy causes.

He said this steer was doing exceptionally well and would participate in the under 440-kilogram class at the show.

“He is looking a million dollars,” Mr Rodd said.

The feed to get the 10-month-old steer in top condition was donated by Wantabadgery farmer Evan Fryer.
