 Royal honours for Finley man

Royal honours for Finley man

11 Mar, 2010 12:46 PM
FINLEY shorthorn cattle breeder Peter Falls has been named a show champion ahead of the 2010 Sydney Royal Easter Show in recognition of his ongoing dedication.

Each year, the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) selects a group of exhibitors, entertainers and participants from across regional NSW who represent the myriad of Sydney Royal competitions to be show champions.

Mr Fall's family has been showing shorthorn cattle at the show for 50 years.

Over the years, he has seen many changes and witnessed the evolution of judging methods for cattle.

The freeways into Sydney have also made the 800-kilometre journey from Finley a little more bearable for the family.

Chief executive of the RAS, Peter King, is encouraging the Finley community to get behind their local show champion and pay a visit to the cattle pavilion at this year's Easter show.

"The Show is a celebrated meeting place for country families to catch up and see the best in agriculture from across NSW," Mr King said.

"And while every day of the Show is a celebration of great Australian produce, this year we have introduced an excellence in agriculture day, a brand new event in the Easter Show calendar to celebrate our agricultural heritage and recognise our latest achievements.

"To be held on Thursday, April 8, Excellence in Agriculture day acknowledges the ongoing contribution our farmers and graziers make to Australia's food and fibre industries and we will be encouraging exhibitors and Showier to share their experiences."

A VERY WORTHY WINNER ! Although I know Peter will be very humble and would rather not be put in the spot light. I think that this is a wonderful acheivement for Pete. I have known Peter and his family for a number of years and they are very dedicated, commited and hard working group of individuals. Peter's family and breeding the best shorthorn cattle is his life. Well done, congratulations and thank you for your contributions to both the cattle and farming industry.
