SHIRLEY Armstrong and son Garry, of the Armdale and Armdale Park Poll Dorset studs, Marrar couldn't have ordered a better result at the Canberra Royal Show.
The long-standing genetics from Armdale came up trumps and one of their one-and-a-half-year-old poll dorset ewes earned the supreme champion dam of the show and the best short-wool exhibit.
The judge was Don Mckinnon, Derby Downs Poll Dorset Stud, Kangaroo Flat, Victoria.
Armdale took out both the champion and reserve champion ewes, as well as the group of one ram and two ewes, with Armdale Park receiving the broad ribbon for reserve champion ram.
Both the champion ewe and the group went on to take out the supreme interbreed titles, with the ewe going on to become the Supreme Exhibit of the show. The interbreed classes were judged by a panel consisting of all the judges involved in judging across all British breeds.
Mrs Amrstrong said it was especially pleasing to see a ewe do so well in the major placings because often the ram wins the top award.
"It was very exciting, you always have high hopes but we were thrilled to bits," Mrs Armstrong said.
"Garry and I took 20 (sheep) between us and there were only two sheep that didn't get a ribbon," she said.
After doing so well during the judging Armdale was named the most successful poll dorset exhibitor at the show. Mrs Armstrong said the stud had been exhibiting in Canberra for a long time.
