Numbers fell 700 short of the expected draw with some producers preferring to hold stock back owing to the large offering.
Secondary cattle were well supplied over yearling weights and grades with lot feeder competition strong across all well-bred lines.
Yearling heifers and steers suitable for the trade were in reasonable numbers, however there were once again limited supplies of supplementary fed or crop finished stock.
Grown steers and bullock’s were well supplied and cow numbers also increased.
The usual group of buyers were operating along with a few extra lot feeder orders. This week bull prices were notably higher with heavy well covered bulls making from 190c to 225c/kg.
The mixed quality supply of vealers sold to varying competition with the better finished pens ranging from 190c to 216c/kg.
Medium weight grass and crop finished heifers sold to stronger demand from all domestic processors and lot feeder buyers with prices generally unchanged to average 186.3c/kg.
Well finished medium weight trade steers were in reasonable supply and prices remained firm, averaging 198.6c/kg.
Light weight secondary steers to turnout sold to stronger demand with orders from Coonamble, Yass, Goulburn, Echuca and the local region.
The well-bred lines, 280kg to 330kg, made from 190c to 219c while secondary heifers returning to the paddock averaged 154.2c/kg.
Well-bred medium weight C2 and C3 steers were well supplied with several feedlots the market drivers on lines of well-bred Angus steers and heifers.
The C2 medium weight yearling steers averaged 199.6c and sold to a top price of 208c/kg. The good quality selection of lighter weight feeder steers sold to weaker competition with prices easing 6c to average 197.6c/kg.
Medium weight Angus heifers were keenly sought and sold 1c to 2c higher, averaging 186.3c, reaching a top price of 195c/kg.
The good quality offering of grown steers and bullocks sold to varying demand with not all southern domestic and export processors operating fully. The better quality pens of grown steers and bullocks sold from 185c to 210c/kg. Heavy cows were well supplied and the market was stronger over all weight and grades.
Well finished beef cows made from 155c to 183c averaging 170c/kg. The D2 and D3 cows were in reasonable supply and all buyers were keen for a market share which lifted prices 10c with the D3 medium weight cows averaging 153.9c/kg.
The plainer light weight cows were quite poor in condition, however they attracted strong restocking competition and made from 132c to 143.6c/kg.
