In the heart of the Riverina cropping district farmers will be brought up to date with the latest in research and development.
The forum will be held on March, 20 and is being organised by the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC).
The event will be held at the Osborne Football club rooms and there are a variety of topics that relate to the winter cropping season.
GRDC southern regional panel deputy chairman, Chris Blanchard, who is based in Wagga, said the update offers growers the opportunity to hear from industry experts about the latest research advances relevant to their enterprises.
The update is being co-hosted by FarmLink Research and the Lockhart and District Ag Bureau.
“Growers are now starting to think about the season ahead and put in place plans for their 2015 cropping programs,” Dr Blanchard said.
“This grains research Update will assist growers with new insights, advice and recommendations,” he said.
Meanwhile, Peter Boutsalis from the University of Adelaide will detail new findings with in-crop herbicide research.
This will include propyzamide and clethodim, as well as what growers can do to optimise outcomes with glyphosate.
Greg Condon, Grassroots Agronomy will tackle the topic of frost, which had a significant impact on crops in 2014.
He will look at what can be done about this insidious yield thief in terms of paddock management and decision-making.
Canola will be a focus of the update with Rohan Brill from the NSW Department of Primary Industries providing information about this crucial crop, including plant development under different sowing times and seasonal conditions.
Charles Sturt University’s Belinda Hackney will discuss “pastures for purpose”, and bring attendees up to date with new research and development into hard-seeded annual legumes and the development of varieties that enable early summer sowing, strong autumn growth and ongoing regeneration.
How best to use imagery and data captured by satellites and drones will be the subject of a presentation by grower and Nuffield Scholar Ben Boughton.
The Update will run from 9.45am to 1pm with morning tea and lunch provided.
