While the Merino MPG’s came under some mild pricing pressure the crossbred and carding sectors continued to strengthen.
The commencement of the Chinese new year and the strengthening Australian dollar added some challenges for the week and while the Merino categories displayed minor falls the EMI was up 5c in US Dollar terms.
Sydney experienced some solid support for 17.0 and 17.5 MPG’s as it was the final designated Australian superfine sale for this season. The more stylish types (spinners and best style 40nkt) maintained significant premiums over lower spec types.
Fremantle posted a strong close (+9c for the WMI) on the final day posting.
Merino skirtings held firm while crossbreeds posted 5c increase across the XB MPG’s despite the 11 per cent increase in crossbreeds on offer.
Merino cardings also finished on the positive side of the ledger with Sydney and Fremantle both gaining ground.
Volumes over the coming few weeks are forecast to remain steady with approximately 45,000 bales expected in each of the next three weeks.
