A CONCERN about dry seasonal conditions and the hope of reasonable prices prompted a bigger than average sell off of sheep an lambs at Wagga on Thursday.

Vendors sold a total of 41,150 lambs and 12,000 sheep in the massive yarding.
Maurie O'Hare of “Kelvin Grove", Mirrool sold heavy lambs early on in the offering for $147.20 he said the market was back on what was initially anticipated.
Meat and Livestock Australia market reporter Leann Dax said the dry seasonal conditions were having an impact and vendors were off loading well-bred secondary lambs which required more finish.
“The quality of the offering was very good over all weight cetgories, grain-fed lambs were plentiful, attracting both domestic and export processors,” she said.
HOW THEY SOLD: Given the increased supplies, the better finished trade lambs remained in a holding pattern to sell unchanged to $2/head cheaper. The better finished 22 to 24kg sold at $120 to $135/head, averaging 504c/kg cwt. Merino trade lambs were keenly sought, with good numbers in full wool. Merino trade lambs sold from $100 to $128/head, with lighter weight lambs suitable to restock or feed sold to a large contingent of buyers.
he best price recorded for lambs to feed was $119, with others ranging from $71 to $116/head. Despite increased supplies of grain fed heavy and extra heavy lambs, prices were generally unchanged to a few cents cheaper.
Heavy lambs on many occasions equaled last week’s prices, to average 499c/kg cwt.
Extra heavy lambs sold to strong demand. Sales ranged from $135 to $186/head, to average 480c to 504c/kg cwt. It was a mixed quality offering of mutton, with all weights and grades represented. Heavy Merino ewes in full wool ignited the bidding on several pen lots. Ewes with a $40 skin value, reached a top price of $129, with other sales ranging from $90 to $126/head, to average 311c/kg cwt. Trade sheep sold to mixed price trends, with Merino skin lengths a contributing factor to the varied price spread. Trade sheep made from $56 to $92/head.
