The funding is from the 2016/17 Riverina Local Land Services (LLS) funding program that opens this week.
Riverina LLS general manager Rob Kelly introduced more than 30 projects that address productive farming, sustainable landscapes and community grants.
There is $1.2 million available for 14 projects under the Productive Farms banner; $1.5 million available for projects that address Sustainable landscapes and $250,000 for community grants.
Projects and activities vary to meet the needs of different farming systems, but cover a wide range of opportunities, such as:
- Construction of stock management areas, to protect groundcover on the rest of the farm; Fencing and to protect remnant native vegetation;Fencing and planting new corridors of native trees and shrubs;
- Fencing to subdivide paddocks to land capabilities;
- Soil testing and training to increase the adoption of sustainable land management practices;
- Wetland and waterway restoration in the Mid-Murrumbidgee River area;
- Innovation for Irrigators grants;
- Riverina rangelands paddock restoration; Sandhill pine woodland restoration
Mr Kelly said the annual funding program complements the work of the Biosecurity and Animal health team, such as livestock health and disease checks, pest animal and weed management, and the work of the Travelling Stock Reserves (TSR) management team.
“These grants are made possible from funding by the Australian Government through its National Landcare Program and the NSW Government through Catchment Action NSW,” he said.
“So Riverina Local Land Services can work in partnership with farmers and groups in agriculture and natural resource management,” Mr Kelly said.
He urged interested landholders and groups to contact Riverina LLS to find out more about the funding program.
Applications for funding close on 30 September 2016.
