Strong demand for Angus bulls with correct conformation and proven performance was evident at the annual on-property sale for the Onslow Angus stud, Wallendbeen on account Doug and Barbara Tozer.

Repeat buyers were the feature of the sale, with top price at $20,000 paid by Rosedale Rural Pty Ltd, Campbelltown, Tasmania, for Onslow Exacto L144, an April 2015 drop son of Granite Ridge 4D7, weighing 878kg.
The “eye catching” young sire was described by breeder Doug Tozer, as a “very interesting bull, with growth and muscle.”
Of the 61 bulls offered, 56 sold for the highly commendable average of $9754.
Significant buyers included Lismore Pastoral Co, Cootamundra who paid to $13,500 for a son of Granite Ridge 4D7 in their draft of four which averaged $8,125, Hanworth Station, Taralga, who bought a son of Ardrossan Apollo for $14,500 and Kinlock Grazing Co, Launceston, Tas, who paid $13,500 for son of Granite Ridge Regent.
E.J. Merriman and Son, “Humewood”, Yass selected a new sire for $13,000 while Ventorria Pty Ltd, purchased a $13,500 son of Granite Ridge 4D7, and Merricroft Pastoral Co, Golspie, paid $15,000 and $8,000 for their two sires.
Repeat client Ian Darmody, Goulburn paid $15,500 for the top bull in his draft, and outlayed $9,000 for a second pick, while A and M Tarlinton, Cobargo, paid $13,000 for their selection.
Bannaby Angus, Taralga, paid $12,000 for their pick of the offering and BJ and LK Tozer, “Starwood”, Jerangle, purchased two bulls for average price $11,500.
Among the volume buyers, Rossgole Pastoral Co, Scone, purchased five sires to top of $11,000 and average price of $9,400, and Steve Ridley, Elders, Goulburn paid $10,000 average for the four bulls he selected for his client WKW Holdings Pty Ltd.
Families with long association with Onslow Angus included NV and SM Heggaton, Wallendbeen who paid top of $16,000 for their draft of three which averaged $12,500.
Speaking after the sale, studmaster Doug Tozer expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the support shown he and Barbara through the years while they bred the type of cattle which performed under all conditions and met current market conditions.
“It is very pleasing for me to breed good cattle, but there is even more pleasure knowing they are also appreciated by good cattlemen,” Mr Tozer said.
“I know these cattle will put on weight, produce a carcase which will yield and they will marble.”
The sale was conducted by Elders Studstock, with Andy McGeoch taking the bids.
