Allan Cruickshank has formed a strong bond with his friesian bullock, Fred, since he came to him just a week after being born in 2009.
The unlikely friendship has been a talking point for many and Fred is a valued member of the family.
Mr Cruickshank is terminally ill but that doesn’t stop him feeding Fred each day.
Kim Guthrie (Mr Cruickshank’s daughter) describes the relationship between the man and bovine as a “bond which couldn’t be broken”.
Fred is almost two metres tall and is known to knock on a metal fence when he is ready to be fed.
Normally he would knock on a fence near the house around 6am for his breakfast but when Mr Cruickshank got sick he adapted to a later time.
Fred has even stuck his head through a window to the shed to get some attention.
Mr Cruickshank’s close friends will take Fred when he can’t care for him.
