Medical student Huon Murray believes that experiencing medicine being administered in all walks of life is key to becoming as well-rounded professional.

Mr Murray grew up in the United States and is currently in his third year of medical science at the University of NSW.
“A lot of people want to be doctors but they don’t know what it’s like being a doctor in the bush,” he said.
His beliefs are motivating him to encourage all medical students to take part in the Rural Appreciation Weekend in Tarcutta after he went for the first time last year.
The program has been running for 10 years and gives city-based students a taste of life on the farm and highlights how medicine differs in rural areas.
“It’s the longest running event of its type,” Mr Murray said.
More than 100 students are set to take part in the weekend which aims to encourage them to take on roles in regional areas.
“We need a lot of good doctors in the country where access to health services isn’t as available as it is in the city,” Mr Murray said.
