Albury MLA Greg Aplin announced the nomination on Friday, saying the Tumbarumba resident was “a most deserving winner”.
Mrs Gairn not only owns Courabyra Wines, known for its sparkling varieties, but formed a committee to start major tourism event Tumbafest, fundraised through the Chamber of Commerce, instigated young achiever awards at Tumbarumba High School and is Tumbarumba Vignerons Association’s vice president.
“Cathy Gairn has been prominent in developing the economic and educational life of Tumbarumba,” Mr Alpin said.
“People like Mrs Gairn don’t do this work with a view to earning recognition and awards, but it is good to share their stories as an inspiration to all.”
