The planned march at Henty was cancelled and about 200 people packed the town’s Civic Centre for the service. Earlier in the morning about 100 people gathered at The Rock and braved the rain to pay their respects.
Major James Van Strijp gave the address at The Rock and said there was no glory in war, yet circumstances could bind people together to form lifelong bonds. Also in the eastern Riverina members of the Pleasant Hills community conducted a commemorative wreath laying service.
After the services towns throughout the Riverina carried out the tradition of running the popular two-up.
