Paul Funnell will seek a five-year closure on the route between Ganmurra Road and Mundowey Lane on the Old Narrandera Road from October to April to ensure spiny burr grass is completely wiped out.
“Council staff are doing a fantastic job staying on top of weeds, but we had 1000 head of cattle go through there recently and they picked up this weed,” Cr Funnell said. “It’s terrible for the animals and it can effect productivity.”
During the closure, Cr Funnell said, Local Land Services (LLS) could allow stock movements around the area, but the recent oversight couldn’t be repeated.
“I’m also going to run for the LLS board to be proactive about the problem,” he said. “We need to get solutions on the ground.”
