Munro Engineers has used the innovation and skill gathered over more than 100 years to become a world leader in the design and manufacture of fencing machinery and aids.
An Australian engineering pioneer since the 1800s, Munro's current core business is the manufacture and supply of a range of innovative fencing machinery.
After manufacturing wool presses, tobacco presses, chaff cutters, bag elevators and shearing hand-pieces throughout most of the 20th century, Munro Engineers is celebrating over 50 years of manufacturing its revolutionary AutoDriver posthole driver, while its Wirewinder and FenceBOSS are also must-have accessories for fencing tasks.
The Munro Engineers posthole driver, first invented in 1963, revolutionised the art of fencing and prompted the business to specialise in fencing products.
However, Munro Engineers arrived on the world stage in 1964 when it launched the first posthole driver to combine a fast drilling auger with a powerful post driver.
This was at the Australian National Field Days where it won the prestigious invention award.
In the five decades since, the Victorian company has sold thousands of its revolutionary posthole drivers.
Company owner Warren McLean said the original Munro posthole driver was manufactured after a bet between two farmers about who could make the best posthole driver.
"The farmer who won the bet, Alastair Mackenzie, and his friend Max Brooke, a hydraulics engineer, approached my father Max McLean," Mr McLean said.
"We finished the design and manufactured the first model in 1964.
"It was the first machine in the world that combined an auger and a driver for installing posts."
Safety, and fast and efficient service are other key areas on which Munro focus – the customer's needs are a priority.
Always looking for new opportunities and developments, Munro continues to grow and increase both their domestic and international markets.
Driving home and wind it up
THE suite of Munro Engineers products is headlined by its range of post drivers.
The AutoDriver has a downforce system that can add a percentage of the tractor mass to the driver mechanism, making it the most efficient machine on the market.
The AutoDriver range includes the Multi-Sett (poles up to eight-feet), with its fast action auger for drilling a pilot hole and powerful post driver, and the Tele-Sett, which is ideal for high fencing work, up to 11 feet. AutoDrivers can handle all types of posts with ease.
The WireWinder links to a tractor’s PTO and winds unhooked, used fencing wire into a neat roll, ready for disposal.
Winding up fence lines at a rate of up to 300 metres per minute makes it an invaluable machine for any contractor or person looking to tackle the big jobs.
An easy-to-use, one-man design, WireWinder reduces fatigue and injury, and can be used with barbed, plain ringlock or a combination of wires.
Roll out fencing with FenceBOSS
ELECTRIC fencing transport problems can be solved with the FenceBOSS, a safe, easy and time-efficient way to reel out and retrieve portable electric fence wire.
Available as a range of components, the FenceBOSS system can include peg racks, and single, double or triple reel holders that can be attached to ute trays or four-wheel motorbikes and adapted to suit individual circumstances.
