Year 12 student Jack Henderson, from Blighty, has ticked a few big things off his list over his four years as a boarder at Geelong College, despite beginning as a shy country boy.
Geelong College has been a part of Jack’s family for generations, but it was the high standard of education and the sporting opportunities offered that really influenced him.
“At home I was much more isolated, living about 20 minutes from the nearest town,” Jack said.
“Boarding allowed me to fulfil my passion for sport and mix socially. It has strengthened my academic abilities, with set study time, no distractions and support from academic tutors that I would not have had at home.
“Living in a house with 50 other boys from very different backgrounds has taught be to become considerate and generate a more educated outlook on life.”

This year Jack was one of 12 school prefects and named in the squad for the Geelong Falcons.
“Without being here in Geelong I don’t think I would have been able to play that standard of football,” Jack said.
“I have always looked up to the past leaders of the school and marvelled at the way they went about their daily lives.”
Jack is hoping to study agricultural science next year, but will miss the boarding house.
“Boarding is one heck of an experience, which now, I couldn’t imagine myself not doing,” he said.
