The council released a statement on Tuesday saying a meeting was “likely to take place” on Wednesday, July 12.

Young-based proponent Edwina Beveridge, said she was informed of the meeting through social media.

“I was surprised to read about the meeting on Facebook,” Ms Beveridge said.

“It would appear council has done away with courtesy and does not see reason to advise us about the meeting directly.”

Council admitted it had released details of the meeting to the public before contacting Ms Beveridge through email.

“It’s certainly council policy to keep DA applicants ... informed of any progress regarding their application,” council general manager Anthony McMahon said. “Ms Beveridge (was) emailed information on Tuesday regarding the forum and meeting, however, this appears to have been after the information was posted publicly online and for that, council sincerely apologises.”

Local animal activist Lisa Ryan, who has been campaigning against the development for the past 18 months, said she was relieved that the issue would be finalised.

“Our 'Say No' campaign has left no stone unturned and nothing has been left to chance, however, we have been respectful, factual and professional throughout,” Ms Ryan said. 

Mr McMahon said while responses from agencies prevented council from consenting to the project, it still had an obligation to undertake an assessment of the proposal.

A public forum will be held at the Harden Mechanics Institute on Tuesday, July 11, from 10am.
