The quality over the offering was once again very mixed. Competition from domestic processors was notably weaker.
Grown steer and bullock numbers were similar and quality was mostly good.
Rising grain prices triggered a significant price correction in the feeder market, for both the steers and heifers.
The mixed quality supply of vealers and lack of demand caused prices to fall 23c to 34c/kg.
Medium weight grass finished trade heifers were in greater number with odd pens crop finished. The better covered medium weight heifers suitable for the trade sold 10c cheaper making from 260c to 308c/kg. Trade weight steers were in short supply, and prices were significantly lower.
Well finished steers sold from 278c to 332c/kg. Feeder steers were well supplied and both the light and medium weight steers sold to a smaller group of buyers. Medium weight steers struggled to find a base price to average 30c/kg less. The bulk made from 295c to 339c/kg. Light weight feeder heifers eased 28c, making from 255c to 310c/kg.
Major processor competition was erratic at times, with not all processors operating fully. The better quality pens of prime finished steers and bullocks sold a few cents dearer making from 280c to 310c/kg.
Cow numbers declined slightly and demand increased. Heavy cows topped at 264c to average 253c/kg. The D3 medium weights eased 3c making from 215c to 250c/kg.
