The Graham Centre director Professor Michael Friend said it had been a good year for beef cattle production.
“Strong demand for Australian beef has seen prices remain quite high, and our product enjoys a strong reputation for quality in international markets,” he said.
“Recent significant investments by the industry in research and development will lead to work that will be important in securing future demand for Australian beef.”
He said producers operate in an increasingly competitive global market, which provided opportunities and challenges for the industry.
Professor Friend said the future of the industry would depend on the more “youthful” being encouraged.
