According to Meat and Livestock Australia’s National Livestock Reporting Service quality was mixed however there were some excellent drafts of 100 day grain fed yearlings and heavy cattle, along with some crop finished yearlings.
In the trade market lighter weight 300-400kg crop finished heifers and steers met with stronger competition and prices lifted. The better finished pens sold from 270c to 308c/kg. The better finished medium weight trade steers and heifers were mostly crop finished. Demand was patchy at times and prices eased 4c to 10c/kg.
The main run of heifers averaged 283c/kg. While the steer portion sold from 280c to 306c/kg.
Feeder steers were well supplied and both the light and medium weight steers sold to erratic competition due impart to plainer quality.
Medium weight steers sold from 265c to 322c/kg. The general price trend for feeder heifers was weaker, with not all buyers operating. The bulk of the light and medium weight heifers made from 248c to 305c/kg. Major processor competition ramped up with 100 day grain fed steers and bullocks igniting the bidding.
The better quality pens of prime finished steers jumped 45c to average 292c/kg. Bullock prices lifted 9c/kg, helped along by 100 day grain fed steers. The better finished steers sold from 280c to 303c/kg. Cow numbers dropped notably. Heavy cows topped at 259c to average 251c/kg.
