According to Meat and Livestock Australia’s national livestock reporting service domestic processors were subdued with only select butcher orders willing to push prices.
Vealers were in short supply with plenty lacking finish. Vealer steers and heifers eased by 8c to 19c making from 256c to 289c/kg.
The trade market lacked intensity and both heifers and steers eased 11c/kg. The main run of heifers averaged 255c, while the steer portion sold from 250c to 298c/kg. Restocking competition came from the south this week, with local and northern buyers only occasionally making purchases. Price trends were mixed with the bulk of the store steers making from 250c to 330c/kg. Feeder steers were well supplied and demand again weakened. Medium weight steers eased 7c, to make from 245c to 294c/kg. The general price trend for feeder heifers was weaker, with not all buyers operating. The bulk of the lighter weight heifers made from 250c to 271c/kg.
Both domestic and export competition was weaker with not all processors attending or operating. The better quality pens of prime finished steers eased 15c to average 265c/kg. Bullock prices were back by 10c, selling from 245c to 279c/kg. Cow numbers lifted and quality was very good over heavy weight categories.
Heavy cows topped at 250c to average 237c/kg. The D3 medium weights were in reasonable supply, with the bulk of the D2 and D3 cows making from 188c to 227c/kg.
