For their 53rd annual sale, Aberdeen Poll Dorset stud, Henty principals Simon and Melissa Male offered 188 rams for a complete clearance at overall average price of $2,393.62.

Top price for the 15 stud rams offered was $18,000 paid by Bill and Angela Close, and their son-in-law Craig McLachlan, Newbold Poll Dorsets, Gawler River, SA for a September drop son of the studs leading sire, AB 5-15.
Mr Close said they were attracted to the sire prospect because of the manner in which his outstanding figures are complimented by an excellent conformation.
“We were impressed by the ram’s sire, and he has good production and eating quality figures,” Mr Close said.
“We were also looking for an outcross to our existing bloodlines.”
The 106 kilogram ram had a post weaning weight (PWWT) 20.1 and PFAT -0.7.
Second top stud price was $11,000 paid by Graeme and Chris McGrath, “Gingamona”, Braidwood, also for a son of AB 5-15.
“We liked his thickness and outlook,” Mr McGrath said.
“He has a very good backend with beautiful meat quality.”
Third top stud price at $10,000 was paid by WA syndicate Tipperary farming, Elspeth Grazing and Glenwall and Co, Walkaway.
Their ram, a son of AB 5-15 had a PWWT of 22 and weighed 103 kilograms.
Other excellent stud ram sales included $8,000 for another son of AB 5-15 bought by Ashley Park Poll Dorsets, Bairnsdale, Victoria: $7,500 for another son of AB 5-15 secured by Richard Maas, Gilmour Station, Bathurst and $5,500 for son of North Ulandi 23-15 purchased by M and K Harvey, Paxton stud, Bordertown, SA.
The 15 stud rams averaged $6,033, while the 173 autumn and spring drop flock rams averaged $2,078 .
Top price for the spring drop rams was $3,800 paid twice by C. J and J. J Bourne , The Rock , while volume buyers included Ben Robilliard, Old Junee who paid to $3,000 for his draft of 39 rams.
Local prime lamb producers were intent on filling their ram orders and included M. V Hart, “Tallawong”, Old Junee who bought eight rams for $3,000 average; the Forck family, Henty who purchased six rams for average price $2,033 and the Winderadeen Corp, Eringoarrah Station, Wantabadgery who added 13 rams to his sire battery to top price $2,1000 paid twice.
Speaking after the sale, Simon Male said he was overwhelmed with the loyalty and support from their existing clientele and encouraged by having nine new buyers sourcing Aberdeen Rams.
“Our flock ram average of $2078 this year overtook our Australian flock ram Record set in 2015 of $1950,” he said.
"We could never imagine such an outstanding result whilst going through a pretty tough dry period,"
The sale was settled by RLA, Wagga Wagga, with James Tierney, RLA, Wagga Wagga and Michael Classer, GTSM, sharing the rostrum duties.
