Meeting specific performance targets was the motivating force behind this year’s selection of bloodlines at Scotts Angus.
The sires used, including Complement, Tour of Duty, Broken Bow and Absolute, have targeted traits the Scotts believe are essential to running a profitable beef enterprise.
As a result, the quality of the 130 bulls on offer this year is an endorsement of this careful selection process.
Scotts Angus M150, a son of Tour of Duty, is an example of the outstanding results that have been achieved.
His estimated breeding values include: Domestic Index +130 (top 1 per cent of the breed), calving ease +3.9 (top 5 per cent), 400 day weight +96 (top 7 per cent), milk +22 (top 4 per cent), and RBY +2.1 (top 2 per cent).
“We place considerable emphasis on birth weights and calving ease, and have selected sire lines that will assist our clients in running low maintenance herds,” stud principal Steven Scott said.

After 60 years of breeding Angus, the Scotts are experts in managing the conditions.
Their herd has experienced much seasonal variability over the years, which has produced functional cattle that remain fertile and productive in tough times, while still being able to fully express their genetic potential when conditions suit.
“Despite the seasonal challenges, this year’s line of bulls is in ideal working condition, without being finished under feedlot conditions,” Steven said.
“They are at present grazing our dual purpose wheat crops.”
The large selection of bulls is available for viewing on property at Glen Elgin, west of Henty.
Steven and wife Cindy enjoy giving their clients as much time as they need in the yards to make the best choice of bulls for their operation.
All bulls have been independently assessed for serving capability, which is backed up by a no-questions-asked, customer-first, two-year guarantee.
“Long term relationships with our clients are important to us,” Steven said.
“Many of these relationships have been developed over two or three generations.
“We believe in looking after people because, for us to keep thriving, we need those relationships to be as sustainable as our operation.”
