Rodeo stock contractor John “Happy” Gill from The Rock said this is the third year in a row the event will be held at the Equex Centre and he is delighted to provide Australia’s best bucking bulls and horses to test out the riding skills of the cowboys.
He said the Riverina had the best rodeo talent in the country and therefore it was fitting that local crowds would be treated to an event to remember.
Rhys Angland from Wantabadgery is the current Australian all around champion in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association (APRA) and his mate Brad Pierce from Tooma is currently leading the standings within the APRA.
“These two are good friends but tough competitors, the atmosphere will only make them ride better,” said Mr Gill.
Mr Gill said the Wagga Rodeo would be the last one in Australia for Rhys Angland before he heads of to the US to compete on the international rodeo circuit.
Some of the bulls selected for the event include, Red River, Night Stalker, Akubra Suicidal, White Lightning, Bambi’s Blood, War Chief, Flying Feathers 102 and Buck Owners.
In addition there will also be plenty of tough bucking horses for the saddle bronc and bareback events.
In fact one of the horses, Paper Rock, who won APRA saddle bronc horse of the year in 1998 and bareback champion 10 years later in 2008, will be retired after the Wagga Rodeo.
Some of the top local competitor involved in the upcoming event include, Australian champion steer wrestler, Todd Hensley, Wagga, Tim and Cody Hammond, Rosewood and Ben Hall from Tumbarumba.
