Numbers were moderately lower for the last sale of the year.
Yearling heifers and steers suitable for the trade were in reasonable supply, while grown steer and bullock numbers decreased marginally.
Secondary cattle were well supplied, and prices for secondary stock were mixed, reflecting the quality of supply on offer.
Most of the usual domestic and export buyers was attendance however not all buyers operated fully.
There were several new store orders in place which contributed to a dearer market for well-bred stock.
The limited supply of vealers sold to steady demand from restockers and feedlots. The better finished vealers to slaughter ranged from 180c to 215c/kg.
Medium weight grass finished heifers suitable for the trade sold to steady competition from processors and feedlots, with prices generally unchanged to average 176.5c/kg.
The better finished medium trade weight trade steers were keenly sought by feedlots which help cement a floor in prices. Well finished steers to slaughter eased 3c to average 192.5c/kg.
Demand from restockers strengthened as buyers seek to purchase well-bred secondary steers. The greatest lift in prices was for well-bred steers with prices 10c/kg higher.
Well-bred lighter secondary steers returning to the paddock averaged 212c/kg.
Secondary heifers carrying more weight were keenly sought by restockers and the better bred lines made from 159c to 185c/kg.
Well-bred medium weight C2 yearling steers were well supplied and this category was keenly contested by several lot feeders which lifted prices 2c/kg.
Medium weight heifers suitable for lot feeding sold to steady competition from both feedlots and restockers to average 180.1c/kg.
The good quality offering of grown steers sold to stronger demand from a major northern export buyer and southern domestic processors. The better quality pens of C3 and C4 steers made from 180c to 196c/kg.
Heavy cows were well supplied, and northern processors were the market drivers dominating sales of well finished lines.
Heavy D4 cows ranged from 150c to 169.6c/kg. There was keen competition across the D2 and D3 leaner categories which lifted prices from unchanged to 2c/kg cheaper.
The D3 medium weight lines averaging 150.3c/kg. Light weight cows to turnout sold made from 132c to 148c/kg.
