The Gill brothers were two of four inaugural inductees into the Hall of Fame, alongside RM Williams and Lance Skuthorpe, at a function in Warwick, Queensland on Wednesday night.
The Rock stock contractor John Gill accepted the award on behalf of his father Jack, and uncle Stan.
It was special moment for the Gill family, who have a deep and rich history in the rodeo game.
“I am very proud,” John said from Queensland.
“In the rodeo world here in Australia, the Gills is the longest running name in rodeo.
“We’ve been involved longer than the Yanks, Canadians, Kiwis or whoever else.
“To have two of our family among the first four names induced into the Hall of Fame, it’s a part of history.”
John and Stan Gill are renowned for the modernisation of rodeo.
The Gills travelled from town to town staging Wild West shows before rodeos got going.
They were also Australia’s first official rodeo stock contractors.
John and Stan, part of four generations involved in rodeo, also taught some of Australia’s greatest champions.
