There are other traits that are very important to the breeding program.
Ease of birthing is recorded for every ewe as this trait is vital for survival of both ewe and lambs. Multiple births survival rates are also a high priority and as the White Suffolk is known for its fertility and mothering ability - these traits make it easier at selection time.
“We record birth weights and post weaning weights to enhance the breeding values of each lamb so that our breeding ewes are as important as our sires,” Mr Gray said.
