Cody Angland of Wantabadgery has had the win of his career after claiming victory at the Mount Isa Rodeo.

The generational cowboy is in top form and has had success on the Australian circuit and overseas.

For him it was the finest bronc riding moment since first entering Mount Isa when he was 16.

Now, 32, Cody has followed in the footsteps of his father Phil Angland and claimed a memorable win.

“We have photo – that was taken in 1986 when Dad won the bareback riding there – and I was one at the time and was watching on,” he said.

Cody was able to replicate the experience with his own son Rowdy, 1, who was there to enjoy the atmosphere and participate in the victory lap of the Mount Isa arena.

The fact he drew two top bronc horses from rodeo stock contractor Garry McPhee of Victoria also helped him to cement the win.

“I rode Cheyenne Top Girl in the round and then her brother Jinglebob in the final … they were outstanding,” he said.

“This has been great I have wanted to win Mount Isa since I was a kid,” he said.

And having partner Tenielle and son Rowdy at the event made it even more special.

Tenielle is an accomplished barrel racer and also competed at the rodeo.

After sustaining a knee injury a little while ago Cody said he had been working hard on his fitness.

He said boxing and hand weights were helping to keep him in shape.

After being bumped down to 16th in the standings for a while the win has lifted him back up to the top.

Meanwhile, Clay Bush of Yass won the team roping in a two-round time of 15.6 seconds after starting with the best time in round one. The same combination were joint winners of the Cloncurry Merry Muster a week earlier.

Clay capped a great three days with victory in the rope and tie with round times of 11.0 and 13.15 seconds.

There were more than 600 entries for Mount Isa.
