Angland guided home $3.10 favourite Ace High to win the $500,000 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick.
An emotional Angland revealed after the race that he missed his brother Cody’s wedding in Queensland to achieve the feat.
"It wasn't an easy decision, he's my brother," Angland told Fairfax Media.
"But for where I am in my career, this is where I need to be to go to the next level.
"As much as it was hard not to go to Cody's wedding, I needed to be selfish and stay on this horse.
"I rang him this morning and wished him well. This will make the party a whole better, they all would have backed him."
The wedding was in Springsure, near Emerald, in central Queensland. The remote location meant Angland was unable to even make the reception.
Ace High now shares joint favouritism for the Victoria Derby.
