Confidence high at Greendale Merino sale

The time seems to be perfect to invest in proven highly profitable genetics with wool and sheep offering substantial returns.

This confidence was evident at the Greendale Merino ram sale held at ‘Willarney’ Cooma on October 26.

The outstanding commercial performance of Greendale Merino genetics was highlighted in the latest Merino Bloodline Performance 2006-16, where it was the most profitable out of 77 bloodlines.

The McGufficke family penned 90 rams, selling 81 on the day for an average price of $1997.

Greendale Merinos is a commercial entity focused on producing the most efficient and profitable merino. Buyers used the information provided with ASBVs to target rams with high YCFW and Merino Production Indexes.

Rams sired by industry leading sires Hazeldean 11-3542 and Greendale 12-12 attracted a lot of attention and all sold at above-sale-average price.

The equal top priced rams were bought by Jim and Clare Buckley, “Highland Range”, Jindabyne – a son of HAZ 11-3542 for $4250 (21.2CFW, -1.8YFD with an MP+ index of 172) and a son of Greendale 14-141 for $4250 (15.3CFW, -2.3YFD and MP+ index of 156).

They purchased of a further two rams with an average of $3837.

Returning clients secured the higher indexing rams on the day .

Eddie and Gail Sellers of Bendoc purchased five of the higher priced rams at an average of $2800; David and Robyn Sykes of Binalong five rams at an average of $2540; Wathonga Partnership, Cooma four rams at an average price of $2562; Meurer Pastoral Co, Holbrook six rams at an average of $1265; Monaro clients Lake Bullenbalong Pastoral Co four rams at an average of $2500; Ian McGufficke three rams at an average of $1400; Jimenbuen Pastoral Co two rams at an average of $1900; Jincumbilly Grazing two rams at an average of $1850; and Tim and Pam Fletcher two rams at an average of $1600.

Clients for the past 13 years, Bernie and Liz Dwyer, Alectown purchased seven rams at an average of $1671

New clients, included Jock Wallace and Claire Mansell, Dalgety who bought seven rams at an average price of $1585. John Brendan O’Reilly, Boorowa put in strong bids and bought two rams averaging $2975 and Buttmaroo Station, Bungendore bought one ram for $2000.

Long-term clients with leading performances in wether trials across NSW again purchased rams at the sale. Woodstock Partnership is ranked second for $/DSE of the 50 teams in the 2017 PWMMC Trial at Wagga Wagga and bought eight rams at an average of $2750.

Oli and Jane Cay, Bungarby ranked first $/DSE in the 2017 PWMMC Trial and took home nine rams at an average of $1220. 

Mayfield Partnership Cooma bought one ram for $3500. Mayfield Partnership is ranked second $/head of the 29 teams in the 2017 Bookham Ag Bureau Trial.
