Ms Bennett has been working on getting her hair long enough to donate to charity, so on November 25 a weighty 35.5 centimetres will be cut from its length.

She is not only donating her hair, but also raising money for the Variety charity, which runs the Hair with Heart program to make wigs for children that have lost their hair due to a medical condition such as alopecia or cancer.

Ms Bennett, who works for the Department of Primary Industries at Wagga, said wigs can cost up to $6000 and be outgrown in as little as a year or two.

“Two years ago, a friend of mine did a sponsored shave, which I thought was a great idea,” she said. “Then I found out my friend donated her hair as well, and I decided it was something I wanted to do too.”
