According to Meat and Livestock Australia’s National Livestock Reporting service there was 3400 new season lambs penned with the majority of these being shorn.

There was a larger percentage of plainer lambs penned, along with a few well finished lines. Not all the usual buyers were present and competing in a steady market.

Light lambs to restockers sold from $54 to $113/head. Trade weight new season lambs were $3 to $4 easier with prices ranging from $122 to $145/head.

Heavy and extra heavy weight lambs held firm. Heavy lambs sold from $151 to $156 and extra heavy weights sold from $160 to $188/head. Carcase prices averaged 619c to 640c/kg cwt. Old trade weight lambs sold from $139 to $146/head.

Heavy and extra heavy weights received from $160 to $192/head. Mutton quality was very mixed but prices showed a dearer trend. Merino ewes sold from $108 to $169/head. Crossbreds made from $115 to $160/head. Merino wethers ranged in price from $113 to $145/head.
