PRODUCING beef cattle in a 100 per cent pasture fed operation is the aim of Coolac grazier Michael Crowe.
He said the aim was to ‘manufacture’ fodder by building a specialist facility on the southern NSW property.
He was recently recognised with a Coles Nature Fund incentive.
“After two years of research, we have developed a system of sprouting seeds in a cold climate environment, which we then use to produce fodder,” he said.
“It is incredible because it is a daily protein and energy source for our cattle, providing a more efficient way of supplying a highly nutritious feed to our cattle.”
“The equipment we have installed supports our farm in supplying more grass-fed beef,”he said.
Mr Crowe said he believed the equipment could be a blueprint for other grass-fed cattle farmers.
Farming for six generations, the Crowe family has been supplying Coles with both beef and lamb for 30 years and joined the Coles Graze grass-fed beef program 18 months ago.
