Wagga’s JGW Harvest sales representative Peter Durham said sales had been really good in the Riverina region for the past two years.
“This is because of the (high) cattle and sheep prices,” he said. His sentiments echo statistics released by the Tractor and Machinery Association (TMA) which show overall, tractor sales were up 7.4 per cent during 2017.

According to TMA sales of tractors in the less than 40 hp category increased 22 per cent. Sales of combine harvester sales were down a little in November 2017 but are slightly up on the previous year, despite many of the widely reported challenges associated with this year’s harvest.
The TMA report states that harvester sales are strongly impacted by a number of factors but what is becoming more apparent each year is the influence of the fleet management approach being taken by farmers.
Because finance has consistently been at the currently attractive levels, purchasers have been able to exercise planned replacement of assets with a longer term view being taken. This has contributed to the sales figures being at or about their last five-year average.
