Chase Russell is just eight-years-old but that is no barrier in achieving his dreams in the sport of rodeo.
The Gundagai cowboy is the youngest competitor in the under 11s barrel racing competition at the junior rodeo finals in Tamworth.
The event, affiliated with the Australian Bushmen’s Campdraft and Rodeo Association, coincides with the popular music festival. In round one of the finals Chase teamed up with his talented horse Matey to win the round with a blistering 18.10 second run. His mum Michelle Russell, an accomplished cowgirl and racehorse trainer, told The Rural Chase was dedicated to the sport and works his horse every day.
“He is just so excited to be here,” Mrs Russell said. Chase comes from a family of successful rodeo competitors and his dad Clayton was a talented bull rider.
