Yarding 3550
The bulk of the offering was more suited to lot feeders and restockers. The market lacked demand over secondary classes resulting in a price correction. Most buyers attended however there were fewer feedlot and restocker orders.
Vealers were a highlight and prices strengthened for well finished European types. The top price recorded was 322c, with the steer portion averaging 314c/kg. Domestic buyer competition varied across yearling trade cattle classes with buyers reporting they had plenty of stock arriving direct or on feed.
The main run of trade heifers eased 10c, to average 258c/kg. There were limited numbers of steers suitable for the trade and buyers were selective when making purchases, with the bulk averaging 268c/kg. Store steers sold to mixed price trends, making from 258c to 338c/kg. Medium weight feeder steers sold 9c easier, making from 248c to 297c/kg.
The general price trend for lighter weight feeders was 18c/kg cheaper. The bulk of the lighter weight heifers sold to cheaper trends, making from 235c to 270c/kg. Heavy steers sold to stronger demand, with the supplementary fed portion pushing prices 10c higher, to average 260c/kg. Bullocks sold to subdued demand, making from 238c to 265c/kg. In the cow market quality was fair to good and most processors were operating in a weaker market. Heavy cows sold 16c cheaper to average 202c/kg. Leaner types made from 160c to 206c/kg.
