The Pymble Ladies’ College Cattle Club team has high hopes for the college steers, Nemo and Nigel, when the cattle show season begins this weekend.
The steers will compete in the Castle Hill Show on March 10, followed by the highly anticipated Royal Easter Show in late March and the Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza at Scone later in the year.
Nemo and Nigel have big hoofs to fill – two of last year’s steers won a swag of awards, including Champion School Steer at the Castle Hill Show and Sydney Royal Easter Show and Champion School Steer carcass at the Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza.
This year, the cattle club team hopes to build on their growing success.

Pymble Ladies’ College principal Vicki Waters said the popularity of agricultural studies at the college has been increasing each year, due to growing interest in ‘paddock to plate’ knowledge and sustainability.
“As a college committed to sustainability, we believe the growing interest in agriculture stems from our students’ passion for environmental stewardship and knowing where their food and fibre comes from,” Mrs Waters said.
“Our cattle club was established due to student demand for a co-curricular activity for both day girls and boarders from rural Australia who wish to gain experience in cattle shows, including the prestigious Sydney Royal Easter Show, throughout the year.
“Their success in competition speaks volumes about their commitment to their agricultural studies and the calibre of the agriculture staff at Pymble.”
The cattle club is one aspect of Pymble’s goal of fostering a world-class educational environment that prepares students for life outside its gates.
