In the lead up to winter sowing growers are urged to take caution and to closely monitor mice activity. 

During the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) Grains Research Update in Wagga Wagga CSIRO researcher Steve Henry explained the enormity of the problem. He said there was plenty of activity around Coleambally and Finley in the Riverina. 

“Growers need to get out into their paddocks and assess the situation, we have already had anecdotal reports of high mice numbers in barley stubble, along with standing rice crops,” Mr Henry said.

Broad scale application of zinc phosphide bait is the only method available to growers.
