Meat and Livestock Australia’s National Livestock Reporting Service states that lamb quality continues to be mixed and similar to the previous sale.
There were some good pens of well finished grain fed lambs offered along with the plainer drier types. Heavy and extra heavy weight lambs made up the majority of the offering. Not all the usual buyers were present and competing in a dearer market.
Trade weight lambs sold $3 dearer with prices from $130 to $156/head. Heavy and extra heavy weight lambs also lifted with heavy lambs selling from $155 to $164/head. Extra heavy weights sold from $159 to $235/head. Carcase prices averaged from 615c to 664/kg cwt.
Mutton quality was very mixed though prices remained strong. Merino ewes sold from $142 to $160/head. Crossbreds received from $132 to $200/head. Dorper ewes made from $125 to $170/head.
