Here’s the report from last Monday: VENDORS sold 3200 cattle at the Wagga market on Monday. Rain throughout the region meant that some properties couldn’t be accessed to get cattle to market.
Meat and Livestock Australia’s National Livestock Reporting Service states that quality was plain. The better vealers to domestic processors sold from 255c to 314c/kg. Lighter weight trade heifers which were supplementary fed were keenly sought resulting in prices lifting 15c to average 278c/kg. Trade steers were limited and prices averaged 292c/kg. Restocking competition fluctuated with buyers not prepared to push the market. Lighter weight steers back to the paddock sold from 234c to 300c/kg to average $624/head. Secondary light weight heifers lacking shape made from 120c to 170c, while the well-bred portion sold at 205c to 244c/kg. Feeder steers were in shorter supply.
Medium weight feeder steers sold 8c dearer from 263c to 313c/kg. Feeder heifer prices continued to strengthen as the sale progressed and prices were up to 12c/kg dearer for heifers weighing from 400-500kg. Domestic and export processor competition was erratic for both heavy steers and bullocks. The better quality pens of prime finished steers and bullocks made from 245c to 284c/kg. Cow numbers declined and demand was solid over the mixed quality offering. Heavy cows topped at 222c to average 207c/kg. The D3 medium weight lines sold up to 8c dearer from 142c to 182c/kg. Young cows back to the paddock sold to weaker price trends, making from 140c to 180c/kg.
