WOOL growers are enjoying a boom time at present with market conditions over the last six months being at levels not previously seen before on some microns.
This has led to an increase in wool production in the area, according to wool buyers Wagga Wool Co.
Co-owner Stephen Dill said they are now handling around 15 to 20 per cent more wool than they were three years ago, which he puts down to a combination of increased wool and sheep meat prices, increased use of earlier shearing by growers and the company’s move to new premises in Jones Street two years ago.
“We could not have handled all the extra business we have picked up in our old premises and still keep up our level of customer service,” Mr Dill said.
“The move has also given us a higher level of exposure with easier access for heavy vehicles and a much more efficient handling of butts and bags delivered in utes and trailers.”

A speciality of the business is easy access for surrounding hobby farmers who want to be able to cash in their small packages of wool.
“We handle wool for all clients whether they have 200 bales or only a couple of butts,” Mr DIll said.
The business is owned by Mr Dill and business partner Matthew Ridley.
“Our advantage is we pick up the wool from the grower and we handle all the marketing,” Mr Ridley said. “You deal with the one person all the way through.
“If market conditions can stay anywhere near these levels and seasonal conditions can improve, I think it looks pretty bright for wool growers and the sheep industry in general.”
