FROM LAST WEEK: New season lambs are something of a rarity. But when a stand-out pen enters the market and makes a record high of $200 it catches everyone’s attention.
At the Wagga sale vendors DI McRae and Co of Old Junee offered 232 sucker lambs, estimated to weigh 22kg to 23kg dressed through Riverina Livestock Agents (RLA) to make a record for this category of $200.
James Tierney of RLA said it was certainly interesting times in the lamb market at the moment. And despite a run of national records for extra-heavy lambs he said it was difficult to know whether more records could be broken again this week.
Merino lambs, estimated to weigh 28-kilograms dressed and with a $25 skin, made $235.20 at Wagga and Griffith achieved a national record in this category with a price of $252.
