Strong community support resulted in a top of $12,000 on three occasions at last week’s Reiland Angus spring bull sale, where 61 bulls were cleared at auction to average $6040.

Purchasing the first of the top money was Jo-Ann Strong, Tiana Park Pastoral Company, Jugiong, for Reiland Macfadden M1281, a Landfall Right Time 24J G483 son out of Reiland Champagne F61.
The rising two-year-old had an impressive phenotype and sat in the top 10 per cent for estimated breeding values (EBVs) for eye muscle area (EMA) at +7.7 and positive milk of +18.
Buyer Ms Strong said they had used the Reiland Angus bloodlines before and were going to re-introduce them.
“He was a moderate bull with fantastic EMA and intramuscular fat at +1.6, with an overall great temperament,” she said.
“He had a beautiful top line and was going to be joined over our ‘L’ cows.”
Graham and Judy Houston, Houston Pastoral Company, Burrowye Station, Wodonga, bought two sires for the equal $12,000 top price.
Firstly, Reiland Mulwala M1074, who was sired by Reiland Hilary H874 and sits in the top five per cent for 600-day at +129.
Their other purchase, Reiland Meriton M362, was sired by KO 7301 Pioneer J13, and sat in the top 1pc for retail beef yield (RBY) at +208 with an EMA of +11.
Mr Houston said he had been purchasing Reiland Angus cattle since 1990 and knew what to expect from the genetics.
“Performance was what we were after along with fertility, IMF and moderate birth weight,” he said.
“The cattle are wanted in the market place due to the feedlot performance we get from the Reiland genetics whilst maintaining fertility traits for the cowherd at home.”
Mr Houston also purchased a further two bulls averaging $9250 in total.
Leading the volume buyers was the Purcell Family Trust, Brungle, who purchased six bulls reaching a top of $5500 on two occasions to average $4750.
South Tahara Park, Forest Hill, put together a draft of four bulls to top at $8000 and average $6500 and Wokolena Pastoral Company, Uranquinty, also purchased four bulls reaching a top of $8000 to average $5500.
Several buyers secured three bulls including; Riverview Wallah, Rugby, averaging $8333, Anderson Agri Services, Tumbarumba, at $4333, Taranee Pastoral Company, Tarcutta, averaged $5666 and Kalkite Pastoral Company, Crookwell, who averaged $5166.
The sale was conducted by Elders and Landmark with Michael Glasser, GTSM and Ken Miall Landmark Wagga as auctioneers.
