Interest in quality Poll Merinos continued at the annual Eastern Riverina Poll Merino ram sale on account the Meadow View, Valley Vista, Karoola Downs and Hurlstone Park studs at Culcairn when 91 rams from 95 offered sold for $2,280 average price.

The multi-vendor sale saw top price of $4,500 paid for an August/September 2016 drop, March-shorn son of Coddington Uardry 13-5034 sold by Ruston and Ryan Donovan, Hurlston Park Poll, Mulwala to Cooranga Pastoral, Culcairn.
Simon and Amanda Bahr, Meadow View, Henty sold 42 rams from their draft of 43 to top price of $4,200.
Geoff Mazzocchi runs a mixed farming operation near Morven, and has been buying Meadow View-bred Poll Merino rams for “a long time”.
He joins around 700 Merino ewes, concentrating on wool production of six-seven kg fleece measuring 19.5m and ewe fertility.
With figures of 19m, SD of 2.9 and Comfort Factor of 99.4 percent, Mr Mazzocchi said he was attracted to the top priced ram in the Meadow View draft for his size, structure and quality of wool.
Simon Bahr said the ram carried a long-stapled and crimpy fleece on a great frame with a big barrel and great depth.
Mr Mazzocchi purchased three rams for average price $3,083, while another longterm supporter M.D Dye, Corowa purchased two rams at $3,500 and $3,000 and S.J and C.A Carn, Lockhart bought five rams for average price $1,340.
Excellent prices in the Meadow View draft included $4,100 paid by G.N Severin Pty Ltd, Tooronga, Brocklesby for ram with 19.8m, Comfort Factor 99.2 percent and Fat of 5.5mm; while R.F Wellington, Culcairn paid $4,000 for his choice bred in the Meadow View syndicate of Willandra Desmond sons.
Other individual sales included $3,750 paid by N.W Bahr and Son, Dunoon South, Henty for a ram descended from Willandra Desmond, and M.G and L.M Kearney, Hamilton, Victoria who paid $3,800 for his selection, a ram with measurements of 20m, 2.7 SD, Comfort Factor 99.8 percent and Fat 5.5mm.
Volume buyers included N.R McKenzie and Sons, Avalon, Brockelsby who put together a draft of four rams for $3,150 average; J.A Fletcher, Wagga Wagga who paid average price $3,384 for his three rams and G,B and H.J Terlich, High View, Henty who purchased two rams at $3,250 and $2,200.
Stuart Pitson, Valley Vista Poll Merino stud, Culcairn realised top price of $4,200 in his draft of 34 rams of which 32 were sold.
Goode Farms Pty Ltd, Culcairn bought the ram with measurements of 17.9m, Comfort Factor of 99.6 percent and Fat 4mm; they further paid $4,000 for a second ram.
Hawkesview Estates, Wodonga selected three rams to top price of $3,600.
James and Sheryl Derrick, Karoola Downs Poll Merino stud, Tumblong sold 12 rams from their offering of 14 to top price of $3,750.
Willis Brothers Farming, Tralee, Yerong Creek bought the ram, an 18.5m son of a Poll Boonoke ram purchased for $16,000 in partnership with the Rayner family, Grathlyn stud at Hargreaves in 2015.
Spokesperson for the vendors, Simon Bahr said it was an “excellent sale”.
“Considering the seasonal conditions, their is still confidence in the Merino job,” he said.
Landmark stud stock, Albury conducted the sale with Peter Godbolt conducting the bids.
